Dr. Anil Sharma is a highly accomplished surgeon with over 38 years of extensive experience. He currently serves as the Principal Director of the Max Institute of Laparoscopic, Robotic and Bariatric Surgery at Max Hospital, Saket. His medical journey began with an MBBS and MS in General Surgery from Bombay University, Seth G. S. Medical College & K. E. M. Hospital, Bombay. Subsequently, he earned his FRCS (Edin) and FRCS (Eng) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England, respectively. An FICS from the International College of Surgeons also adds to his impressive credentials.

He relocated to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, from the UK in 1994. He was associated with the founding of the Department of Minimal Access Surgery since its inception in 1996. Surgical management of abdominal wall hernias is a special interest of his. Furthermore, he has conducted numerous operative workshops and lectured extensively globally. Therefore, his training and credentials are truly world-class.

Additionally, Dr. Anil Sharma is a keen academician and prolific writer. Several landmark scientific articles and chapters in international publications have been contributed by him. The Basic Medical Writing Course for Surgeons was designed by him to introduce surgeons to effective medical writing and presentation. As President of the Asia Pacific Hernia Society, he conceptualised and created Hernia Essentials, a comprehensive hernia training course based on international guidelines.

He is an Accredited Faculty and Examiner for the National Board of Examinations for the Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery. Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Surgery and member of the International Advisory Board of the Hernia Journal are also his roles.
