Dr. Swarupa Mitra

Dr. Swarupa Mitra is a distinguished Radiation Oncologist with over 23 years of experience and currently serves as the Director and Unit Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon. She completed her MBBS from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, and earned her MD in Radiation Oncology from Patna Medical College in 2001. Known for her clinical precision and commitment to patient care, Dr. Mitra has played a significant role in advancing radiotherapy practices in India, including pioneering IGRT technology in New Delhi and establishing a rural cancer center in Rewari, Haryana.

Dr. Mitra is trained in advanced techniques such as SRT, SRS, SBRT, PET-based radiation planning, and brachytherapy for gynecological cancers. She is also a principal investigator in multiple ICMR-backed research studies and has taught and mentored postgraduate trainees and B.Sc. Radiation Technology students. Her academic contributions include authoring oncology textbook chapters, serving on journal editorial boards, and participating in global oncology training platforms like ESTRO. She is frequently invited to speak at national and international forums, including ASCO, ICRO, and UICC.

In recognition of her excellence, Dr. Mitra was selected among the “Women Achievers of the Year” by Hindustan Times in 2015 and received the prestigious oration at the Indo Oncology Summit in 2018. She is an active member of professional bodies such as AROI, ESTRO, ASTRO, ASCO, and IGCS. Through her clinical leadership and academic involvement, Dr. Mitra continues to be a driving force in modern cancer care and radiotherapy in India.
