About Dr. Krishan Chugh
Dr. Krishan Chugh is the Principal Director and Head of the Department of Paediatrics at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram. Recognized as one of Asia’s most distinguished pediatricians, he was among the first in India to specialize in Paediatric Pulmonology and Allergy. He pioneered interventional bronchoscopy in children and has extensive experience in both pediatric and neonatal bronchoscopy. In 1982, Dr. Chugh established the first Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in India at Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital, New Delhi. Later, he set up the country’s first private sector PICU at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Today, he leads the highly advanced PICU at Fortis, bringing decades of hands-on clinical and leadership experience.
Dr. Chugh is deeply committed to teaching and has mentored a large number of pediatricians across India who now run their own PICUs. His annual workshop on Pediatric Bronchoscopy is among the most sought-after training programs in the field. Apart from clinical work, he actively contributes to research and medical education. He serves on the editorial boards of leading pediatric journals such as Indian Paediatrics, Indian Journal of Paediatrics, and Journal of Paediatric Critical Care. His expertise is frequently featured in media on child health issues like pollution, swine flu, and dengue.
Currently, Dr. Chugh holds prestigious academic titles, serving as the Dean of the Indian College of Paediatrics and Chancellor of the College of Paediatric Critical Care. He has edited several books, authored numerous chapters, and continues to contribute actively to national and international conferences and medical forums.
