About Dr. K S Iyer
Dr. K S Iyer is a highly distinguished Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon with over 45 years of extensive experience. He currently serves as the Chairman & Head of Paediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery at Fortis Okhla. His academic journey began with an MBBS from AIIMS, New Delhi, in 1978. He then earned his MS in General Surgery from AIIMS in 1981. Subsequently, he pursued his MCh in Cardio Thoracic Surgery from AIIMS in 1984. He was also the Institute Gold Medalist for Best Graduate of the year. Additionally, he served as Additional Professor at AIIMS. Moreover, he completed a Senior Fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. Therefore, his training and credentials are truly world-class.
In 1995, he established Northern India’s first dedicated paediatric cardiac care program at Escorts Heart Institute. This initiative has become a benchmark for paediatric cardiac care in India and neighbouring countries. He has successfully operated on over 10,000 babies, children, and adults with congenital heart diseases. His expertise covers a wide spectrum of complex procedures. These include arterial switch operations, double switch procedures, TAPVC repairs, and Fontan surgeries. He also performs Tetralogy of Fallot corrections, DORV corrections, Truncus repairs, and Senning operations. Additionally, he performs conduit repairs and various single-stage and multi-stage corrections. He has contributed original work in rapid two-stage arterial switch procedures. He also performed India’s first successful rapid two-stage arterial switch and double switch operations. Consequently, he is a globally recognized and trusted name in paediatric cardiac surgery.
