Dr. Achal Bhagat

Dr. Achal Bhagat is a distinguished psychiatrist with over 30 years of experience in the field of mental health. He is currently a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in Delhi, where he provides specialized care for a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including autism, dyslexia, eating disorders, mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and personality disorders. Dr. Bhagat is highly qualified, holding an MBBS, MD in Psychiatry, and MRCPsych. He received his training at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and further honed his expertise at Oxford, UK. His deep understanding of psychiatry enables him to offer comprehensive treatment plans that include psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and family therapy.

Dr. Bhagat has played a pivotal role in shaping mental health services in India. In 1995, he founded the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, marking a significant milestone in mental health care. Later, in 2011, he established the Division of Mental Health and Quality of Life at Medanta the Medicity. Beyond clinical practice, he serves as the Chairperson of Saarthak, an organization committed to mental health advocacy, training, and service provision across South Asia. Saarthak operates with three core pillars: delivering mental health services, training individuals and organizations on mental health awareness, and advocating for the rights of persons with mental illness.

Dr. Bhagat believes in a multidisciplinary approach to mental health care. He collaborates with a team of experienced psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and therapists, collectively bringing over a hundred years of clinical experience. His dedication to improving mental health extends beyond patient care, as he actively participates in mental health rights movements, advocating for gender rights, disability rights, and the rights of individuals suffering from mental illness.
