About the doctor

  • At the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, where he also held the position of Associate Professor till 2005, Dr. Vipul Gupta received his training in interventional neuroradiology. He successfully completed his fellowships with the Cleveland Clinic USA (1999) and the Foundation Rothschild, Paris (2005).
    In Boston, Massachusetts, near UMASS General Hospital, Dr. Gupta has been an adjunct professor.
    He specializes in intracranial aneurysm coiling, AVMs, tumor coiling, carotid stenting, angioplasty, and stenting of arterial stenosis. He also does intra-arterial thrombolysis for stroke.
    More than 45 journal articles and 7 book chapters have been published by him. He has given more than 40 abstract (paper) presentations at conferences in India and abroad.
    In 2006 and 2007, he received the IMA Award and the I.M.A. Academy of Medical Specialties Award, respectively. He was also listed as one of the “Top 10 Young Surgeons” in the nation by Hindustan Times.
    He formerly held the positions of Head of Interventional Neuroradiology at the Max Institute of Neurosciences from 2003 to 2009 and Head of Neurointerventional Surgery at Medanta the Medical City from May 2016 to the present.

Procedure

  • Endovascular management of cerebral aneurysms utilizing flow diverters, balloon remodeling, detachable coils, and stent aided embolization. Having served as the principal surgeon for more over 1000 patients with brain aneurysms.
  • Brain fistulas and arteriovenous malformations are treated endovascularly with glue or onyx. having served as the principal surgeon for approximately 300 patients with brain AVMs.
  • Dural arteriovenous malformations treated endovascularly by venous or arterial pathways with coils, adhesive, and onyx. Having served as the principal surgeon for more than 100 patients with brain DAVF.
  • Endovascular revascularization techniques include carotid, vertebral, and intracranial vessel stenting, as well as percutaneous transluminal angioplasty. having worked as the principal surgeon on more than 230 such patients.
  • Intra-arterial therapies for acute stroke employing the Penumbra device, thrombolytic medications, and stent retrievers (Solitaire, Trevo, Revive). Having treated more than 70 acute stroke victims first-hand.
