Dr. Suneeta Mittal

Dr.  Suneeta Mittal is one of the most experienced and respected obstetricians and gynaecologists in India, with over 46 years of practice in the field. She is currently the Director and Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon. Previously, she served as the Head of the Department at AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr. Mittal is known for her deep clinical knowledge, surgical excellence, and her commitment to advancing women’s health through education, research, and public health initiatives. She has treated thousands of patients from India and abroad, especially for high-risk pregnancies, infertility, adolescent reproductive health, and hormonal disorders.

Her areas of special interest include infertility treatment, endocrine disorders, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgeries, and robotic procedures. She has contributed significantly to policy development in India, including the formulation of National Guidelines for Medical Abortion and protocols for the rational use of emergency contraception. Dr. Mittal has also spearheaded the “12 by 12 Initiative” aimed at preventing adolescent anaemia to make future pregnancies safer. She has adapted the WHO Medical Eligibility Criteria Wheel for Indian settings and collaborated on setting national standards for mother-baby friendly hospitals with UNICEF and the Indian government.

Dr. Mittal holds several prestigious fellowships such as MNAMS, FAMS, FICMH, FICOG, FRCOG, and FICLS. She has received numerous awards, including gold medals in medical school, the DMA Distinguished Medical Service Award, the Zee News Swastha Bharat Samman, and Lifetime Achievement Awards. Her contributions continue to shape reproductive healthcare practices across the country.
