In 2010, Dr. N.P. Gupta joined as chairman of the academic and research division of urology. He began working at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as a faculty member in 1979 after completing a urology specialization. From 1998 to 2010, he held the titles of Professor and Head of Department. Dr. Gupta made significant contributions to the development of urology sciences at the national and international levels during the course of his illustrious 45-year career. More than 30,000 surgeries for different urological conditions have been done by him. He is a pioneering and well-known surgeon who began robotic surgery in the field of urology at AIIMS in 2006 and has since completed the majority of robotic surgeries in India for his specialty. In addition to serving as National Delegate and Board Member of Socitete Internationale D’ Urologie (2004–2006), he served as President of the Urological Society of India (2007–2010) and Asia (2008–2010). He has earned numerous national and international honors, including the Padamshree from the Indian government in 2007 and the Dr. B. C. Roy National Award from the Indian Medical Council in 2005.
