Tummy Tuck

What is an abdominoplasty?

An abdominoplasty, also referred to as a tummy tuck, removes extra skin and fatty tissue to give the stomach a flatter, more contoured appearance. Additionally, muscles can be tightened to create the illusion of a toned belly.

Who is eligible for a belly tuck?

A belly tuck can flatten the stomach and increase self-confidence in both men and women. Patients typically choose this operation to remove extra, sagging skin that may have stretched out and lost its elasticity due to pregnancy, aging, and substantial weight reduction.

Procedure

The typical stomach tuck surgery, called a full tuck, lasts about two to three hours and is done under general anesthesia. Just above the bikini line, a cut is made that runs from hip bone to hip bone. The abdominal button is separated from the surrounding tissue with a second incision. The extra fat and tissue are then cut away, the muscles are pushed together (tightened), and they are sewn into their new place. The belly button is then inserted through a new hole that is cut and stitched into place before the excess skin is pushed down to form a tighter, smoother surface. The first incision is then closed by sewing the skin back together.
Mini-tummy tuck – In a mini-tummy tuck, the belly button is left in place while the skin beneath it is removed through a bikini line incision. Following the removal of extra skin and fat, the skin is pushed downward and stitched together along the initial incision. An extended tummy tuck is another possibility, although it’s less frequent and leaves a noticeable scar on the back and abdomen.
recuperation time
After the tummy tuck procedure, you might need to stay in the hospital for two nights. Bandages will have been placed around the stomach area and drainage tubes will have been introduced to remove any extra fluid. It’s crucial that you avoid any vigorous exercise for a few weeks after having a stomach tuck because sutures need to be removed around 10 days after the procedure. You should take two weeks off of work and wear the supporting bandage for a number of weeks. You can take over-the-counter medicines to get relief if you’re uncomfortable.

Risks

You should always be informed of the risks associated with any cosmetic operation. Risks of a stomach tuck include infection, slow wound healing, fluid buildup, numbness, visible scarring, blood clotting, and internal organ damage.
